  • The Benefits of ESL E-Learning Resources

The internet has made it possible for ESL classes to take place anywhere. It has also led to the creation of so many e-learning resources to aid learners. These resources have not eliminated your need for ESL physical classes but have enhanced the learning experience of students. So, there are benefits of these e-learning resources. ESL e-learning resources allow for personalization in handling learners’ needs. They create room for one-on-one contact between learners and teachers. E-learning offers students a variety of reference materials and learning activities such as games, lessons tailored for the individual student, and creative outlets such as social media, educational blogs, and animated videos. Online resources like videos and interactive forums make the teacher relatable and not so distant. This allows the student to get to know his or her teacher better and feel more comfortable asking questions. E-learning allows for the flexibility of the schedule between students and teachers. Students can now choose when and how to meet with a teacher instead of the other way around. There are now websites, YouTube channels, and podcasts offering ESL classes 24/7. There are also timeslots for students to choose lessons that best fit their schedules This flexibility also ensures that students have equal access to e-learning while increasing student attendance and participation and discouraging skipping class. Another benefit of ESL e-learning is that as a student you can learn at your own pace. More time is spent on hands-on activities and less on coaching or lecturing. If you are making use of video or audio material, you can go back and forth until you understand a particular aspect better. Furthermore, e-learning materials encourage you to study outside of class and also prepare before every lesson. Whether it is an online class with other people or alone, what matters is that you are studying at your pace and ability. Lastly, for both teachers and learners, e-learning resources create limitless avenues for creativity in learning. There are e-learning tools, websites, apps that incorporate so many things to make learning impactful and fun. For instance, some e-learning resources spice up the learning experience with cartoon icons, effects, transitions, stickers, face masks, and the ability to share pictures and movies. Another instance is Randall’s ESL Cyber Listening Lab’s audio listening exercises that are organized by difficulty levels of easy, medium, difficult and listed by topics like “Clothing Styles,” “Car Rental,” “Breakfast Recipes” and “Friday Night Mishaps.” Each lesson includes a short audio clip (usually less than two minutes), a quiz, vocabulary activities, post-listening exercises and online investigations, which ask the student to research the topic further online. ESL physical classes are participatory and spontaneous, but e-learning materials are the future of any form of education in the 21st century.
